We haven't taken a single dollar yet. The first hundred donations are the ones that prove this can work — they're the seed the Giving Fund starts from. We'll know your number, and so will you.

Donations and forfeits flow into the same Giving Fund. The Fund supports twelve kinds of work — crisis lines, food access, addiction recovery, literacy tutoring, domestic violence support, and a few more — described in detail on the homepage. Once the Fund starts distributing, we'll publish real recipients in our annual report.

why this exists.
We didn't really expect anyone to want to give without using the app. Then a few people asked. So we built this.
Some folks like the Giving Fund idea but don't have a habit they're trying to keep. Some people would rather skip the streak game altogether and just put something on the work itself. Some people use the app and want to add more. All of that is fine. The button works the same.
If you'd rather give directly to one of the orgs we point at, please do that instead. They'll love you for it, you'll get a tax receipt, and we won't be even slightly hurt by it.

Is this tax-deductible?
No. SEOD is a regular for-profit company, not a 501(c)(3). Your donation supports the work, but you can't claim it on your taxes. If tax-deductibility matters to you (and it does for a lot of people), give directly to one of the orgs we point at on the homepage — they're all 501(c)(3)s and they'll send you a real receipt.
Will I get a receipt?
Stripe will send you a payment receipt by email — that's the standard "you paid X to SEOD on this date" record. It's not a charitable-donation receipt, because (see above) we're not a charity. It's the same kind of receipt you'd get for buying anything else.
Can my name go anywhere public?
No, and on purpose. We don't keep a donor wall, a thank-you page, or any other public list. We don't even ask for your name on the form. If you want to tell someone you gave, that's between you and them.
Why not just be a 501(c)(3) and pass everything through?
Two reasons. First, becoming a 501(c)(3) takes 6–12 months and a stack of legal work. We'd rather ship the app first. Second, when an app holds user money meant to flow to specific charities, it usually triggers state money-transmitter licensing — that's a 50-state mess that would cost more in lawyers than the orgs would ever see. The Giving Fund model lets us do real giving without the regulatory tax. We may revisit it down the road; for now, this is the cleaner shape.
Can I get a refund?
If you donated by mistake — wrong amount, wrong account, hit the button twice — email hello@disincentive.app within seven days and we'll refund it through Stripe, no questions. Outside that window we'll do our best, but we can't promise; sometimes the money has already moved on.
How will I know what the money did?
Once the Giving Fund starts distributing (which only happens once we have meaningful money to send), we'll publish an annual report listing every recipient, every amount, and the date. Plain language, real names, no marketing spin. If we ever skip a year, we'll say why.
